K9 Conservation

Anti-Poaching & Rapid Response

Employing extensive in-the-field experience, K9 Conservation provides logistical backup and support to privately owned conservation areas and game reserves through the deployment of elite, highly trained and specialized working dog units.

Canine Conservation (Pty) Ltd was registered as a private security company in 2011 and is PSiRA-registered.

Our primary function is to aid and assist game reserves and protected areas in counteracting illegal hunting and contraband trade by poaching and wildlife crime syndicates.

“Our aim is to ensure the protection of Africa’s threatened wildlife and the conservation of their habitats.”

Our Services-

Operational Logistics

Crime scene preservation is the most important aspect influencing the success and effectiveness of man-tracking dogs. Minimal scent contamination allows the canines to pick up the scent of suspect(s) and makes the follow-up process easier. This method of follow-up allows us to ascertain the amount of suspects that were present at the crime, to identify their points of ingress and egress, and to collect other crucial evidence relating to details such as footwear, ammunition and other weapons.

We specialize in intelligence gathering and work with reputable sources. This allows us to directly infiltrate criminal syndicates, ensuring maximum arrest success and taking illegal firearms out of circulation.

The fight against wildlife crime can not be won alone.

We understand the importance of teamwork and have a good rapport with other units and organizations. By joining forces, we ensure the best chance of wildlife protection.

Unit Deployment

The appointed K9 Unit(s) will request an initial site visit and consultation with the reserve managers/staff to gain a better understanding of the needs and specifications of the protected area are. We will then provide a selection of security plan options for the client to choose from.

Each unit is self-sufficient and will have its own appointed 2ic who operates directly under a K9 Conservation area manager. This ensures maximum effectiveness in communication and strategy planning.

We provide a call-out/rapid response action to our clients during emergencies and are on standby 24/7. We mobilize anytime and anywhere when needed.

Our field rangers are fully qualified and trained and undergo stringent polygraph testing on a regular basis; this also applies to our managers and our director.

Other services include farm protection, crop guarding, gate guard services, armed response and call-out retainer services.

Canine Units

We make use of three main categories of working dogs; Patrol, Conservation, and Cold Scent Tracking.

We source our canines from reputable breeders and proven working lines. Training is done in-house but our K9 trainers ensure the reliable success of the working dogs by providing follow-up training in the field, i.e., at the various reserves in which the K9 units are based.

The mental and physical well-being of our dogs are of primary importance; therefore, they are very well-cared for and paired with carefully selected field rangers who are trained up as dog handlers.

Our handlers and trainers are highly dedicated, hands-on professionals that network, knowledge share, and keep up with the latest science in dog training.

K9 Conservation has assisted in the procurement of working dogs and the training of K9 units in several countries, namely; the Central African Republic, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and India.
